The Gospel for Christians, Part #1: The Gospel Story

Eager to preach gospel

Why?????

Aren’t most of us Christians?

Isn’t the gospel for non-Christians

Doesn’t the gospel get us saved?

Power of God

Romans 1:15-17

For Christians

Gospel is not just for initial salvation, but for continual sanctification, it is how we grow and function as Christians - Col 1:6

Gospel lenses

In order to live in the power of the gospel, we must know gospel's story, and see all of life and all of the scripture through these lenses

Main story

Creation Genesis 1

Fall (rebellion and fall of creation) Genesis 3

Promised redemption Genesis 3:15-21

Redemption John 1:29 & 3:13-17

Restoration Colossians 1:21 Ephesians 6:11-12 Revelations 21:8

Personal story

Romans: How the gospel connects our story to the story of God

Creation

Rebellion - 1:18-23, 28-32, 2:1, 5

Redemption - 3:21-26, 5:1-2

Restoration with God:

Death of sin's power over us: 6:11, 17-18, 23, 7:24-25

Completely forgiven: 8:1

The Spirit: 8:9-11

Sons of God: 8:15-17

Promise of participation in final restoration: 8:22-24

Continual transformation: 8:28-30

Agents of the kingdom: 10:13-17

Changes everything

How you read bible

tied to gospel

tied to Jesus

tied to you

How you view following Jesus

it's rightly entering into this story

new creation

erased fall

redemption

participation in redemption

receive redemption

How you view yourself

God's dearly loved child

Completely forgiven and reconciled

How you view sin

yours and others

How u view others

Not as bad people needing to change

As people hopelessly lost, can't save self, desperately needing to be restored to their God and

Creator

Application: Enter the story

Non-Christian: decide to repent and be baptized, be reconciled to God

Christian: View yourself as an agent of God's restoration - 2 Cor 5:20

This week, ask yourself, how would your life change if you saw yourself as God's agent of spiritual and physical restoration in the places where you live and work and shop and recreate, to the people around you?

Would you let the Spirit guide you as you live in this identity?
